Multiple and HTP Charting

I am a pl student and I have a question re multiple time period/HTP pl charting.

Question pertains to monthly, quarterly, yearly charts (A good example is multi-year analysis of bonds in where the energy is coming from).

Are these charts based on nearest futures price data or continuous futures data? If continuous, are they derived on averaging of contract months by volume, or op

Generally speaking these charts are drawn from nearest future data. However on the larger timeframes, such as yearly data, any data series of sufficient length will do; the variances will be very small relative to the significant energy points on the chart.
